A flying start! Today has been a marvellous beginning to Year 6’s School Journey.
A sense of excitement and anticipation ran through our group as we made our way from Bermondsey to Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. Following a pleasant journey, the highlight of course a very enjoyable ferry ride, Year 6 arrived at PGL in good voice and high spirits raring to go!
Our adventure began with team building games led by the excellent PGL staff, including at some highly entertaining animal impressions from the children (ask Maria-Mila and Meghan when we return) and Tyrese and Jessie giving us all a lesson in ballroom dancing. Lunch was warmly received by all – Phillip was particularly complimentary of the pepperoni pizza – then it was time for our very first activities.
Year 6 have thrown themselves straight into the spirt of adventure and determination that School Journey is all about. Luke put in a heroic performance on the Catwalk, conquering his initial fears to scale its lofty heights, Eilis hit target after target in the archery and Liam expressed his joy at completing his daring decent during the abseiling.
Following the excitement of our first activities it was time to enter our accommodation for the very first time and to settle into our cabins. After a few interesting attempts at bed-making, all the children are well settled in their room, with clothes, and of course snacks neatly organised. Another well received meal was then followed by a much needed lesson by Mr McInroy on how to tie a double knot into a shoelace leading us nicely into our evening activity. This evening’s camp fire has proved a lovely opportunity for us all to relax, spend time together as a group, learn some new songs and make some new friends – a splendid way to round off the day.
Today has been a marvellous opening to our week together. We now all look forward to a restful night’s sleep ahead of another fun filled day tomorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with all back home,
