A very warm hello from sunny Kingswood!
The children enjoyed their first full day today in Ashford. After ensuring they ensured that they wore their summer clothes and filled their water bottles, we set off into the day; already a warm sunny day at 7:30am. We enjoyed our first breakfast, which was a full English (Mr Humm was especially pleased with this) and also had a choice of cereals and yogurts.
The groups then set off for their morning activities: this consisted of archery, aeroball, and orienteering. Every group rose to the challenge as they embraced the fine, warm sun. After a period of relaxation and recharging over lunch, the children then set off for their afternoon activities: obstacle challenge, scavenger hunt and, significantly to the children, Jacob’s ladder. Standing proud in the field, the children had been engaged and in awe of what seemed insurmountable. But alas, the children conquered their fear and showed reliance as they hurled themselves up each step. After dinner, which consisted of wedges, rice, chilli con carne and chicken goujons, the children’s final activity was Trail of Mystery. This challenged the children to act in role and solve the mystery of each crime. Order in the courtroom!
Today, all adults have chosen some stars of the day. Each teacher is going to choose children heroes of the day for the following reasons: overcoming a fear, supported someone else, showed determination etc. There will be special mentions for being on time, organised. There will also be a quote of the day from the children.
Miss Bates: David N for almost reaching the top of Jacob’s ladder. He showed great determination and athleticism in doing so.
Mrs Mchaki: Lola and Sabrina for leading by example by being team players and consistently modelling exemplary behaviour.
Mr Humm: Arav for throwing himself into every activity today and yesterday; there has been nothing that has stood in his way! A particular highlight was the obstacle course as he surmounted the rope net. Arav sat at the top triumphant with his hands held high.
Ms Oye: Susan for overcoming her fears to climb Jacob’s Ladder. She was very apprehensive at the beginning, but she persevered and managed to get up to the fifth pole.
Today’s quote of the day goes to Aaron who named himself ‘Aaron Hood’ after proving himself to be a fine archer today!
