Day 3 was yet another busy and exciting day for the children at Kingswood. The activities were numerous and, with the sun still beating down, we kicked off the day with bushcraft and quidditch. Bushcraft was a particularly challenging but rewarding activity for children. This is because they had to create the spark, using flint and steal, and then keep the fire going by adding the suitable sticks that they found themselves in the woods. This was no mean feat! Quiddich was always going to be a firm favourite for the children as it’s a sport from the Harry Potter series. Just like in the books/films, there were beaters and chasers; the main difference being that the children did not fly on brooms. We then concluded the morning with mini games.
After lunch, the children undertook problem solving. This was a fantastic activity where the children had to work together to cross the obstacles using only planks of wood, team work, communication and their initiative. Some children then did the 3G swing, which was an exhilarating large swing that suspended them up to 20 feet in the air, and the Leap of Faith, whereby the children had to climb a 20 foot post and then jump onto a hanging trapeze. We were impressed by how the children stood up to the afternoon challenges, showing great character.
The children were also surprised today by our very own Miss Allen who drove down from London to see how they were getting on. This gave the children a boost before the final activity and they enjoyed some ice creams! The final activity was the camp fire. Led by enthusiastic hosts, the children sang boom chicka boom and played camp fire games.
Heroes of the day:
Ms Oye and Ms Figuerao: Kacie for her overall participation in all activities. She worked well as a team – especially during the 3G Swing where she helped set up the apparatus and went up to the top! Also, for being a positive role model, in terms of her behaviour, and showing good manners in the dinner hall.’
Mrs Mchaki: Tolani & Marilyn for listening well to their instructors and focusing on the activities.
Miss Bates: Nathaniel for being a good team member and enabling his friends to cross the tyre task.
Mr Humm: Jonathan for being respectful to the activity leaders, showing skill when making fire and adding to the group with his positivity and humour.
