Art & Design

Art and DT are taught in termly blocks and learning is linked to the wider topic theme to contextualise learning. Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination and at SJRC we aim to achieve this through the exciting topics selected and the skills taught.

Through learning about the roles and functions of art, the children can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures. We aim to increase pupils’ first-hand experiences of art, craft and design through school visits to art galleries and other enrichment activities.

Children are encouraged to use a wide variety of tools and materials for drawing, painting and creating imaginative and observational three dimensional work. As well as developing their own style, they look at the work of other artists and explore the use of their techniques and media. ​
