Our School Councillors
The purpose of our School Council is to encourage children to get involved in issues that concern them in and around school and to understand they can effect change and make a positive difference.
Each class, from Reception to Year 6, has two School Councillors who share their views at meetings and regularly report back to their class. These School Councillors are chosen by the pupils themselves. At the beginning of each year, pupils present their manifesto to their class to enable pupils to vote for those they feel will best represent them at School Council meetings.
The School Council meets every fortnight with Miss Anderson.
What have we done this year?
This year, our on-going project is to improve our lunchtimes. We have already met with Mr Coffey, who has helped us to introduce activities such as table tennis; and work is continuing to improve school lunches.
As part of our responsibilities, we were asked to decorate the school Christmas tree. This was carried out with enthusiastic carol singing and was enjoyed by all.
In December, we were invited to the re-opening of George Row Playground. At this event we planted bulbs with the help of a landscaper, which we look forward to seeing grow over the Spring and Summer.
In January, we also worked very hard on group storytelling during National Storytelling Week. We visited EYFS and KS1 classes to tell some familiar stories which the pupils thoroughly enjoyed – and so did we!
During the school year, we have encouraged fundraising through Children in Need and over the summer term will consider how else we can help others both within and outside our school community.
Over the past few years our School Council have achieved many great things including:
- Working with the Lunchtime Team to provide new equipment for the playground and wet play games for each class
- Liaising with the Kitchen Team to redesign the lunch menu to include ‘School Favourites’
- Planning our yearly ‘Children In Need’ events
- Contributing to the redesign of the local playground on George Row
