This week, our children in Years 1 and 2 have visited the National Portrait Gallery to enhance their learning on their current topic ‘Magnificent Monarchs’. The children were excited to travel there on the tube and spent their time looking around at the fascinating paintings and portraits. Over the last few weeks, the children have been practising their Monarch poses and the messages these give. The trip allowed them to see their learning in real life and exhibit their learning to all the adults and children within their group. The children spent time focusing on the paintings and used freeze frames to reenact the portrait or sketched it, using their observational skills.
